Apparently just the 4.7K resistor went bad, incapacitating the PA stage (but without frying the resistor).

This gets us to Niels question. At these low power levels it can be difficult to get enough drive to run a PA in Class C, right? For this reason Doug Demaw often went with a class A amp in rigs with just the oscillator and one amplifier.Bill Mearahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07662500663603350847noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7590176649168185428.post-51998202033482179102010-05-15T09:22:01.960-04:002010-05-15T09:22:01.960-04:00Reminds me of the movie Fail Safe, the American pr...Reminds me of the movie Fail Safe, the American president (Henry Fonda) is talking to the ambassador in Moscow and is telling that the Russian can't stop the bombers. He will know they dropped the nukes when he hears a high pitch tone as the phone melts in the blast. Guess I should explain it was Cold War drama about an accidental nuclear war. Keep up the great work Bill.Don NJ2Enoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7590176649168185428.post-87686178717903217382010-05-14T23:07:11.922-04:002010-05-14T23:07:11.922-04:00Tsk.
