I think most of this security stuff is a lot of FUD anyway, patching against theoretical problems that might occur if the computer is connected directly to the internet. Using an external firewall will keep the nasties out of the computer in the first place. If you must use a Win2K system for web surfing just use a browser that is supported, like Firefox (which is a good idea anyway) while for email either use a third party client or something like Gmail.
