Summer Reading for Homebrewers: Frank Jones and the FMLA by Michael Hopkins AB5L (SK)

Frank Jones W6AJF (SK)

I read these stories when they were first coming out and I really liked them.  Here are all the FMLA episodes.  Don't try to read them all in one sitting.  Spread them out.  Savor them.  Think about the message that Frank was sending us.

  1. "You need to go to Confession," he said. "Get rid of the Sin of Appliance Operating and take up the narrow path of home radio construction so you will be ready when the time of wailing and grinding teeth arrives."
it seems this must be a foundational text of SolderSmoke

  2. From FMLA I: I threw the switch on my AEA keyer and sent the station description while I deciphered my notes. When the keyer signed,

  3. Why 5M, isn't that another magic band in search of sunspots? Unless you are a hilltopper or rover, 5M makes no sense

  4. Frank Jones only operated on harmonically related bands. You know: 80, 40, 20, 10, 5...

  5. Bill, I'm glad we were both able to enjoy Michael's wit and talent on the various reflectors of the day (Glowbugs, Boatanchors, QRP-L). Reading the comments after he'd publish one of his essays was almost as interesting as reading the posts themselves. While most enjoyed his obvious talent and wit, there were some who (in the dawn of "woke") worked hard at outraging themselves. I would have loved to enjoy sharing a lunch , or a hamfest table with him.

I am glad that the opus of his work has been saved .
