Rigs on Vertical Boards -- Then and Now

I saw this on Facebook today.  G1AVQ (SK) Rig

The G1AVQ rig reminded me of the N3FJZ rig that I worked in 2015:

I am a big fan of breadboards, and have recently been following the lead of Frank Jones W6AJF in using pine boards as the bases for my homebrew rigs.  Mine are more horizontal, but we see here from N3FJZ and G1AVQ that a vertical orientation works too.

  1. Stacking vertical or horizontal -good either way with good rigid mounting. For the most part, components don't know the difference. That's what I thought until I walked into an IEEE-MTT-s paper on quartz crystals and SAW devices. Turns out gravity has an (infinitesimally minor!) effect, but of no concern for us homebrewers.

  2. Mike: Perhaps we need an adjustable flux capacitor near the bottom of the vertical boards to balance out the gravitational effects. Thoughts? 73 Bill

  3. Ha! Really Good One, Bill! Now we need to assign a new schematic symbol for the Adjustable Flux Capacitor. New S-parameter and Spice Element models! Surface Mount and Thru-Hole types! Gadzooks, think of the possibilities, Marty! Will we have it ready for publication in next April's QST?
