In response to Bill's plea on SolderSmoke #142 for an inexpensive source of Belden 1671A semi-rigid coaxial cable, I can offer it for sale at $.30 per foot in lengths up to 10 feet to 20 feet; handling longer lengths is problematical, as I don't have a good wire-respooling method at present. Postage and packaging for up to 10 feet of 1671A cable is extra and costs $3.25 for shipping via first-class mail to U.S. addresses (I honor PayPal and certain other payment methods). Note that coaxial connectors for 1671A are available (but not from me, alas). P.S.: the "Murphy's Whiskers" Bill refers to are small pieces of copper braid wire that break off from RG-174/U (or other) coax braid and cause intermittent short-circuits in whatever they fall into.

😀 Completed the wiring the LBS Part I (pics attached)

I've said wiring completed but, it's not really done. lt will need some peakin' & tweakin' and I already have made design changes to the power board. 

My Summer Project took ALL Summer, had the usual excuses with Summer activities, family obligations,  interruptions and days of just plain goldbricking. 

At last all the LBS Part I boards were laid out, etched, populated, soldered and installed.  As a novice Toroid winder it took a  while to get the toroids done. (I had to do THREE DBM Transformers to get two  to match.)

Some features of note: 

1. Extensive use of the recycle bin for front / rear panels and feet. (Tin can and bottle caps) Go Green!

2. Extra Mojo was induced with using the 10K pot Farhan supplied with my first Bitx40 Kit that I did not use, (I replaced it because I could not find knobs for 4mm shafts back then)  

3. Junk box speaker (8 Ohm - 0.5 W) from a cheap radio alarm clock my Mom threw away after it stopped working.

4. Use of the RG405 coax for interstage RF connections. (No Murphy's Whiskers)

😞 My tale of woe. Apparently after connecting the LBS Part I stages together I put the AD9850 module back in it's socket upside down --- then applied power,  Awaiting the replacement. HIHI

😜 SITB or Stick-It-To-Bezos.  Again this month my Ham stuff budget was blown on an Amazon order (replacement AD9850 modules being not cheap anymore). I started at the soldersmoke blog web page search bar so there should be a little something heading to your North Virginia QTH from Jeff.

Some Audio Shielding

As I was aligning my "23/24 Re-cycle" 17 meter SSB rig, I noticed the tell-tale sounds of RF getting into my audio. (I guess I should be pleased -- my amplifiers are now producing enough RF to cause some trouble!) So this morning I went in and battened down the hatches in the AF part of the rig. Lead lengths were reduced. Unshielded cables were replaced with RG-174 (with due attention to "Murphy's Whiskers"). A ferrite bead was placed on the wire that carries voltage to the op-amp chip. I wrapped some foil (actually some of that conductive tape used to protect windows in alarm systems) around the plug on the D-104). And finally I cut out two pieces of PC board and made a shield for the whole AF section (see above). I think all this has had the desired effect. The audio sounds clean. I have the day off today, so if there are no Coronal Mass Ejections I hope to make some contacts on 17. Stay tuned!
