This is not really my thing, but the changes to 60 meter rules recently caused me to crack open some older Arduino/Si5351 and AD9850 VFOs, so maybe this was my thing...
Still, all of this chatter kind of disappears once you embrace analog LC VFOs. But here is a good article about all of this:

Horrible experience with the BIG 'Q' in the early 1990's involving our very large customer and CDMA. The BIG 'Q' was shaking down everyone for the $1Meg licenses, even if you are just a tiny sub-contractor with a solder iron and a screwdriver. Our large customer already paid the $1Meg, but that didn't stop the BIG 'Q' from trying to milk the fee from us! The BIG 'Q' is never to be trusted. In the linked article, Limor Fried has it right, the EFF seems to have downplayed the issue.
ReplyDeleteIt is high time to look at alternatives-- the numerous Microchip Microcontroller boards with MPLABx, or SBC's like RP, Beagle Bone, etc. Yes, the Arduino IDE was good, it's time to wean yourself from it and use any of the others. You can find better- much better.
I guess it might just be what I got used to, but the raspberry pico-W turned into our only embedded platform pretty quickly. From the article, I'm a littl surprised that anyone would use a cloud based IDE for embedded programming. For the longest time, I was almost by default away from an internet connection when I wanted to update the firmare on our projects.
