The Bit Player Trailer from IEEE Information Theory Society on Vimeo.
Thanks to Bob KD4EBM for alerting us to this. As Bob put it, Shannon definitely had The Knack. Check out the trailer (above) for this new movie. It looks like the IEEE is still working on the release plan for the film. Does anyone have info on this?
More info on the film here: https://thebitplayer.com/
Four years ago we reported on a video about Shannon: https://soldersmoke.blogspot.com/2015/09/claude-shannon-had-knack-video.html
Thanks Bob!

All EE students (and a bunch of non EEs)working with any information theory in the digital realm have studied Shannon's theories and work.
ReplyDeleteBill – you have a great blog. Keep up the good work. Almost 40 years ago I had a chance to meet Shannon in their family home, courtesy of his daughter who introduced us. We spent an hour or more in his study where he demonstrated and explained his famous electromechanical mouse in a maze driven by relay logic. Having a little of the knack myself, it was impressive to think about his machine learning algorithm driven by relays and the wiring that called for. He also demonstrated the Ultimate Machine that resembled a mechanical Thing from the Addams family, reaching out to turn off a switch before retreating into its box. At that time, I knew little of Shannon’s remarkable achievements although his genius was apparent under his gracious manner. What a treat it was to meet him.
