I've made some disparaging comments recently about the MAKE blog. I noted that they seemed to be drifting away from soldering irons and toward knitting needles. But they have redeemed themselves with this excellent video on LEDs. It even features HOMEBREW LEDs!!! Thanks MAKERs!

ReplyDeleteIf this kind of stuff interests you, check out two books by H. P. Friedrich (AC7ZL): Voice of the Crystal and Instruments of Amplification. His homepage is here. The first is mostly about crystal radios, and includes info about homebrewing *all* the components. Even capacitors and headphones. The second talks about early amplifiers. Very neat stuff.
Great stuff! It's hard to believe it took almost 50 years before someone caught on.
