I thought this was an interesting look at filters and crystals. And even mechanical filters. Remember: Those little SAW containers became the lapel pin symbols of the FMLA.
I know there are readers who object to anything produced using AI. This video is in that category. But those who object would presumably have accepted the videos or other content found through the use of a search engine, right? Perhaps those who object to this kind of material should just turn off their computers, wait for the next delivery of QST or 73 Magazine (!) and hope that no AI tools were used in their production. Also, I would point our that reading this blog is entirely optional.
Hold on . . . it can't be true that reading the SolderSmoke blog is optional. You should ask Gemini about that.
ReplyDeleteIt *is* true, though, that AI productions closely resemble ones created without it. Both kinds are prone to factual error, unexamined biases and suppositions, naïve interpretation, sentimental distortion, and padding of content to play to YouTube algorithm and monetization considerations. Preferring one kind over the other is more a matter of taste than substance.
AI is a *human* creation intended for *human* purposes, and to quote Maya Angelou, "Nothing human is alien to me."

ReplyDeleteBill: I've been trying to get my daughter to accept the difference between LLM AI (chatbots) and generative AI. She wants to tar both with the same opprobrium. I have been finding that chatbots are *very* useful as supercharged search engines that present organized findings. *Generative* AI, on the other hands, actually makes stuff: text, images, video clips, etc., so humans don't have to. I like and am impressed by LLM. I dislike (perhaps only as a matter of taste) and worry about generative AI.

Todd: They are unfair because they take data produced by non-LLM web sites and present this info to others as if it were their own work. In the old days before LLMs, Google would provide a link to your site. This would bring readers to your site. You could monetize these visits. With LLMs, this is over. I think that is unfair. Oh yea, users of LLMs will soon have to pay for the privilege of doing this. 73 Bill N2CQR
ReplyDeleteAI is a copy/ paste system lacking any ability to innovate in any meaningful way. It profits by stealing our intellectual property. Yes, it's possible to use it to write essays that you could write if you had more time and ability. I see no positives in any of this...unless you own the AI engine and earn the revenue.
ReplyDeleteWell, I think we have to give the devil his due. Sure, it is unfair and is based on a lot of intellectual property theft. But on the other hand it very quickly comes up with answers that would have required hours of web searching and head-scratching. For example, I recently asked it why my Parks Electronics 2 meter receive converter (with Nuvistors) from 1964 was not oscillating. Almost instantly it pointed me to the 43.333 MHz crystal. That was it. This would have taken me hours to find through an old-style search engine. I am sure there are thousands of stories like this. This is why lots of hams are holding their noses and using the LLMs. 73 Bill N2CQR
