Quick! Before Claude turns us all into paper clips!
I guess this is part of a series. First we had Notebook LLM making a podcast about SolderSmoke. Then Peter Marks VK3TPM had Claude (I think) give us an AI version of Pete N6QW talking about circuits.
Now we have (above) a Claude-produced video of KK4DAS in contact with me, N2CQR. Claude (and KK4DAS!) did all the heavy lifting. I think it looks pretty good for something that never really happened.
What do you guys think? We may be getting closer to the day where we can have Pete N6QW on video, convincingly singing the praises of LC VFOs and bad-mouthing the Si5351. That will be a momentous day indeed. Paper clips may soon follow!

Very convincing! It does resemble Dean's shack per his qrz.com page. Wonder how much time did Dean need to put that together with Claude? Even the voicing sounds credible, with reasonably good lip-sync of Dean , which some AI produced videos lack.

DeleteThis little diversion may, like much of what we now see in the social media, be touching on a fundamental truth about reality as we've understood it. Maybe everything really *is* an AI projection, a simulation over which we have only trivial control. Something like the Grid world of Tron, or Star Trek's holodeck. We only *think* we exist because we've been programmed to. We *think* we've been unchained and led out of the cave, but what we see in the "sunlight" is itself only a projection on some larger wall. Playing with AI (as opposed to its use as a power tool to be respected like a chainsaw) might be like playing with an Ouija board, a temptation to demons best left in an old trunk somewhere, if not burned. Projection or not, our hold on "reality" is already weak enough, and our hands already well greased. Too much of AI's second-guessing and we'll lose it. Even the thick-headed Lear understood that kind of danger: "O, that way madness lies; let me shun that; no more of that . . ."
ReplyDeleteHow long until a whole Soldersmoke podcast is AI generated? No, I didn't use Anthropic Claude to simulate Pete, it's great at coding but I don't know if it can do these audio tricks. Great to see Soldersmoke is at the frontier of all this ;-)
