Quote from the Old Miltary Radio Net: "Being on the leading edge is great, but sometimes being on the trailing edge is more fun." Indeed.
Heard from an Australian on the Southern Cross Net: "My antenna needs a lot of Viagra!"

Farhan's review of Hollow State Design: I am compelled to set aside the future of my family and to orphan my cats to resume work on the 250v power supply that I built last year. Inshallah, Allah favors those who favor thermatrons! Grayson's book is imbued with deep experimental insights and littered with gems. You have to read it over and over to find new things each time. It goes into my reference shelf in the lab." Buy it here: https://www.ermag.com/product-category/books/

SHAMELESS COMMERCE DIVISION:
Check out the SolderSmoke blog on the WayBack Machine. The blog, not the podcast. www.soldersmoke.blogspot.com Would this be a useful backup if Google were to pull the plug on blogspot? Is the format OK? Is the template recoverable? How best should we backup the SolderSmoke blog?
Dean has completed his Mythbuster: https://kk4das.blogspot.com/2025/05/kk4das-mb-20-transceiver-complete.html Plexiglass top!

Another Great Podcast, Gentlemen--Bravo!
ReplyDeleteTo add to your "Shelf of Shame", "Desk of Despair" and Bill's "Trunk of Trash" let me add my "Carpet of Castaways", (also alliterative). Any small components, hardware, etc, that fell from the bench to the floor became a lost castaway, never to be found--that is until the Dyson recovered them. Now I have a new room for the shack, with a solid blue carpet reveals all.
Again--Bravo guys!
My speckled garage floor does a great job of concealing components. Surface mount components in particular are lost and never to be seen again.
DeleteA new challenge: Build a rig using only components that have disappeared into the rug. You can do it Mike! 73 Bill
ReplyDeleteLooking at that Dyson "debris tray" we could be on our way to a SolderSmoke Direct Conversion Receiver. Or given what those SMD components have been through, its more like SolderSmoked!
DeleteI checked you out on the Wayback Machine. Looks good, the podcast, photos and YouTube links come up after 5 - 10 seconds. In the first seconds YouTube link shows and error message, then OK. If Blogspot is fading away, I suppose you could try some others.
ReplyDeleteWhen I got curious about Substack blogs, I just tried copying my an entry (simple copy and paste) and everything worked fine immediately. The success of transplants will vary according to the source and target blogs maybe...

I'm reading through the green balls of fire link! That's good stuff. I'm also trying to track down an old Life Magazine article for you about green fire ball sightings over New Mexico in the '50s. The article used to be free on Google Books, but I'm not seeing it anymore.
ReplyDeleteThe gang, (14 year-old KO6BTY, 12 year-old Mota, and 10 year-old Tawnse (the last two are internet aliases), and I enjoyed listening to the podcast while out camping and exploring the environs near Baker, NV this last week. Thanks!
We're going to be doing singled tube transmitter research this week :)
