Coil-Making in Japan -- Manual and Automatic

I found this video sort of soothing.  I liked the manual process, but the automatic process is amazing too.

Thanks to Rogier PA1ZZ for sending this.

  1. Very interesting video! True, there is lots of manual winding done, some with tools to prevent kinking. Also automatic shuttle winders are used by the RF/Microwave industry.

    1. For a video on shuttle winders:

This is a step-by-step procedure for setup which takes some time. Very fast and uniform winding. The microwave guys have machines for much smaller cores.

  2. Knitting needles! Why did I never think of knitting needles? Thanks Bill, this is cool!

  3. I wonder what it would cost for Hans at QRP Labs to pay for producing all the toroids in the QMX+ and how many he would have to contract for to get it done? Thanks for a very informative video.

    1. I hear you Dave! For me, it would be nice if they'd just go ahead and solder those pre-wound toroids into the board :)
